Set number of multiple exposures on your SLR to '2'; 3. For the roll of film in your SLR, determine the film speed (S); 4. Reset the camera film speed (Yes, you can override the setting) to (2 × S) or, if not an exact match, set it to the absolute closest speed ((2 × S) ± adjustment); 5. Turn OFF the camera's LENS Automatic Focus feature (located on the Lens itself); 6. Take your first shot with the frame in sharp focus; 7. Take the second shot with the frame completely out of focus (Yes, turn your lens to extreme out of focus. REMEMBER: Check and reset the SLR film speed and number of exposures to their original settings before continuing with your next shot. Some SLRs will automatically reset the number of exposures back to '1' before advancing the film to the next frame. It's always better to verify this. Milling Machine The milling machine uses a rotating cutting tool to cut flat surfaces, grooves, and shoulders, inclined surfaces, dovetails, and T-slots. Cutters of many shapes are changed to cut different grooves. Cutting Tools Metal-cutting tools are classified as single point or multiple point. The lathe and shaping machine use single point cutting tool while the milling and drilling machines use multiple-point-cutting tools. Metal is cut either by moving the work piece like in the lathe or by moving the tool like in the shaping machine, drilling or milling machine. Clearance angles must be provided to prevent the tool surface below the cutting edge from rubbing against the work piece. Rake angles are often provided on cutting tools to cause a wedging action in the formation of chips and to reduce friction and heat. Tool Materials In order to remove chips from a work piece, a cutting tool must be harder than the work piece and must maintain a cutting edge at the temperature produced by the friction of the cutting action. Oxides Ceramic, or oxide, tool tips consist primarily of fine aluminum oxide grains, which are bonded together. These are very hard. Cutting fluids An overheated tool can become blunt and soft very fast. Therefore very often, cooling fluids cools the cutting points of the tool. This serves to lubricate and cool. Water is an excellent cooling medium, but it corrodes ferrous materials. Sulfurized mineral oil is one of the most popular coolants as it can both cool as well as lubricate. The bracketing feature on most DSLR and EVF digital cameras is sometimes unfairly ignored. Bracketing the exposure is not to be confused with the continuous feature that takes three or more exposures at the same value. The automatic exposure sensor in the camera does its best to supply the correct exposure, but since the window of good exposure is fairly narrow in digital cameras, a better exposure could be made. The light sensor must rely on either average information across a representative section of image or in the case of a spot reading, a small area that may or may not be close to a mid range density. By exposing a subject one half or one third stop under exposed and one half or one third stop over exposed, an obvious difference in image quality will help you decide which one to keep for future enlargement. Most cases of poor image quality can be traced to an original under or over exposure. While it is true that the average image editor can correct for density mistakes, the end result will be a compromised version of the image, even though it is improved from the original. A properly exposed image will show better skin tones, whiter whites, deeper blacks and a more subtle range of tones in pastel colors. Years of shooting with exposure forgiving negative color film has spoiled us with the fact that two under exposure or three stops over exposure will be corrected in the printing. There is some correlation to slide film, especially the characteristics of Kodachrome. Transparencies often required the exposure to be within one half stop of the correct exposure to look at all good when projected. Few photographers carry around a gray card to check the color balance or take a spot reading of a face close up before taking the shot. The bracketing feature can save the day.
